How Keryx Works

Keryx is a systematic, structured program where the participants (called ‘candidates’) are presented with the opportunity to experience spiritual renewal and to accept God’s call to a life of Christian witness and service to one another as they are taught solid Christian life-skills.

Our weekend events use the following format:

  • Weekend events span roughly 36 hours which we call “three days”:
    • Thursday evening provides the program overview, establishes expectations, and provides for personal introductions;
    • Full day training sessions on Friday and Saturday; and,
    • The weekend concludes in the early afternoon on Sunday.
  • The Keryx program is very structured.
    • There are no “optional” parts that a candidate can elect to skip if they are to fully understand what Keryx is and what Keryx teaches.
    • For the candidate, this structure includes:
      • Training,
      • Group and individual discussion,
      • Breaks,
      • Meals,
      • Music and singing,
      • Art, and
      • Nightly reflection on what was taught throughout each day.
    • For the volunteers and hosting facility, this structure also includes:
      • Prayer,
      • Planning,
      • Pre and post weekend communication,
      • Training and support.

Keryx in a Nutshell

Keryx is a lay-led (1), non-profit (2), non-denominational (3), Christian-based (4) ministry that serves prisons and the public using the Cursillo method (5).

What does all of that mean?

  1. Our ministry weekends are led by Christians from the pews, not the ones from behind the pulpit.
  2. All proceeds to this ministry are put directly into supporting the ministry and it’s events.
  3. Keryx is not affiliated with any specific Christian denomination.
    • Our volunteers come from many denominations to focus on the main thing: Christ Jesus and the relationship He wants with each of us.
    • Due to our denominational diversity, our ministry may also be seen as ‘inter-denominational’, ‘multi-denominational’ or ‘Ecumenical’ [tending toward Christian unity or cooperation].
  4. We hold to the following statements of Christian Faith:
    • We believe the Bible to be the inspired, only, infallible, authoritative Word of God.
    • We believe that there is one God, eternally existent in three persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
    • We believe Jesus:
      • is fully God and fully man,
      • was born to a virgin,
      • lived a sinless life,
      • performed real supernatural miracles,
      • shed blood vicariously and completely atones for our deserved death,
      • was bodily resurrected,
      • ascended to the right hand of God the Father, and
      • will personally return in power and glory in full authority over all creation.
    • We believe the bible clearly states:
      • The Lord Jesus Christ died for our sins as a sacrifice, and that all who believe in Him are born again (justified) on the grounds of His shed blood and resurrection. (Romans 4:25, II Corinthians 5:21, John 14:6, Ephesians 2:8-10, Romans 10:9-10)
      • The Holy Spirit acts in and through people’s lives today in the spiritual unity of believers. (John 16:8,1 John 2:27, Acts 13:2, Romans 5:5, 8:9, 8:26, Galatians 4:6)
      • Mankind was created in the image of God. Mankind chose to disobey God and sinned, thereby incurring not only physical death but also spiritual death, which brings separation from God. (Genesis 1:27, 2:17, 3:6, Romans 3:23, Romans 5:12, Romans 6:23)
      • God creates each person as male or female. These two distinct genders reflect the image and nature of God. Rejection of one’s biological sex is a rejection of the image of God within that person. (Genesis 1:26-27)
      • The term “marriage” has only one meaning: the union of one man and one woman in a single, exclusive union as delineated in scripture. We believe that God intends sexual intimacy to occur only between a man and a woman who are married to each other. We believe that God has commanded that intimate sexual activity be engaged only within the context of marriage. (Genesis 2:18-25, I Corinthians 6:18; 7:2-5, Hebrews 13:4)
  5. Like Cursillo, Keryx is a short-course in Christianity that includes: prayer, fellowship, teaching, food and song.
